Snapper is presented as an application that can “maximize your desktop estate.” You see, Snapper is a screen splitter and virtual desktop application. This means that you can use it to split your screen into multiple areas and thus keep everything nicely organized on your desktop; and you can also use it to arrange your stuff on multiple virtual desktops.

Snapper supports any Windows edition from Windows 7 onward. Snapper needs .NET Framework 4.5 to run. A setup wizard will install Snapper on a PC powered by Windows 7 or newer. If the setup wizard detects that .NET Framework is missing, it will notify you about it.

When you’re done with the installation and you launch Snapper, you will be presented with the application’s Settings menu. From it you can activate your copy or keep using the trial, choose if you want Snapper to automatically run at startup, and play with a few other options that influence how Snapper works.

A Getting Started dialog will show up next. It explains how to set up the layout by adding vertical and horizontal splitters, by resizing squares, and by removing unwanted splitters. It also explains that you can move applications into squares just by dragging and dropping them.

Snapper provides support for hotkeys. When the Snapper toolbox is minimized, you can use these hotkeys to switch from one virtual desktop to another, to show/hide the aforementioned toolbox, to realign apps into the desktop layout, and to undo the last added horizontal or vertical splitter. Go to the Help menu to access the complete list of hotkeys.

If you like to work with just one screen, Snapper helps you keep things organized by letting you split the screen. If one screen is not enough, Snapper helps you out by letting you use multiple virtual desktops.

Pros

The system requirements for running Snapper are very low. You won’t have any problems installing Snapper on a Windows PC. A Getting Started dialog displays useful information about using Snapper. Snapper lets you split your screen into multiple areas and lets you use multiple virtual desktops.

Cons

Nag screen.
